Last call: have Tea for Tribes!
by Ruth
Only a few days to go until the beginning of Tea for Tribes, and Survival supporters have been busy arranging tea parties all over the world. So far Tea for Tribes will be making its mark in the USA, Australia, Ireland, Taiwan, Spain and India – and more people are registering their event every day.
Alexandros’s 7th grade class will be hosting Tea for Tribes for friends and family at their school in Taiwan:
“As Taiwan has a large and varied indigenous population, I felt it was important for my students to do something tangible to help tribal groups. Your organisation is doing fabulous work and I hope my students catch the enthusiasm and go the extra mile for our fundraiser.”
Tansy Whitebytts has been industriously making Jellies to sell at her event. The Crab Apple and Rose Hip Jelly sounds delicious!
Meanwhile the Survival Staff have also been planning. I’ve organised an event at my home, and as my baking tends to be ‘inconsistent’, decided that a trial run was in order.
Googling came up with a delicious sounding Plum and Almond Cake which smelled amazing when cooking. My housemates had to be warned off with threats and promises that, if edible, it would be re-created at our official Tea for Tribes event.
It was my colleague Marc’s birthday this week, so we’ll be tucking into it during our tea break today. I’ll let you know if it’s any good…
If you haven’t yet organised your Tea for Tribes event, sign up today! It’s a fantastic way to raise vital funds and awareness for Survival, and a great excuse to stop for tea.

Fiddlesticks! Ruth’s being very modest. Her baking is far from ‘inconsistent’ – consistently excellent, I’d say – and the plum and almond cake she baked for Marc’s birthday was delicious.

The cake was indeed tasty and plentiful. I am slightly traumatised by the fact that my special cake was in fact a trial run for Ruth’s very own tea for tribes. Hurt and upset, I think I will recover by repeating to myself ‘it was for a good cause, it was for a good cause’…

I am becoming too industrious for my own good! I have now bought in a mass of canvas shopping bags which I am busily decorating!
Major Dickie has been commissioned to make cakes!
Rooibos tea will also be served!
Good luck to everyone else

David: you’re being suspiciously nice, what are you after? Ah, I know, more cake…
Marc: you are special, honestly.
Tansy: It sounds amazing! I wish I had someone to commission to make cakes. I’m going to be up to my armpits in flour all day tomorrow.
Good luck to everyone else too! Let us know how they go.

A success full Tea Party yesterday. The neighbours turned out in force – including one of 97! We raised £165.45 in just under an hour and a half! The cakes were very successful: Carrot, almond & cherry, lemon drizzle and a malt loaf. The jars of crab apple jelly went well as did the canvas bags.
Great fun! How did everyone else get on??
